Day 3

thoughts:-

I am learning more when I sit back, and observe, rather than getting stuck in and helping out. I will do this more over the next two weeks

I talked to the form today, and told them they had embarrassed me in front of the head of year, by making noise before registration. I said I didn’t want it to happen again. This went well.

I watched Nia censure Tom today, for killing an ant rather than taking it outside as asked. She handled this well, by asking him to stay behind, keeping calm, and discussing his actions, and his choices which got him in to trouble. I chatted with Andy, his LSA later in the day, and tried to find out what was the best way to handle Tom. He said that calm, and respect, not patronising worked the best with Tom. I will tell Nia this tomorrow.

Year sevens are very different. They seem better behaved, quiet, responsive and eager. Structure lessons to reflect this
have a fall back plan for all lessons
Expect chaos at the start of term, and plan accordingly.
There are many ways to organise class seating. Work out which one works for me, and for each class. ( watch this over the next few weeks) so far:-
Alphabetical
Boy / girl
Troublemakers spread out
Free
Design mixed groups

Explain, explain, and then explain again before starting an activity. Make sure everyone is clear before you begin
Plan my introduction to new topics; explain the format of the booklets.
Point out links to key skills
a soft voice can make itself heard too
recap at the start, and the end of the lesson
