I've been Induced!

Another fine day at Bishopston yesterday, where I was introduced to the rest of the staff team as 'our new colleague', starting in September. Which was nice.

I spent the first period with the Science team, discussing moving pupils up or down between the streamed ability groups. An interesting debate on how each pupil would do in their new group, and the effect this would have on the whole class ensued. It was quite enlightening and encouraging to see how much thought was put into the process.

I then spent the rest of the morning with Carol Turvey, the Assistant Head - Continuing Professional Development, and Leeanne Harvey, who is also enrolling on the GTP for 2006/7, teaching Maths. Carol is tremendously supportive, and has promised to make this coming year the best possible experience for Leeanne and I. I don't think we could ask for more.
We covered : -

The School Handbook, including Discipline, extra duties, School policies, behavior policy.
The school prospectus
The school and the county child protection policy,
The school calendar
The school plan
The teacher's planner
The student planner

We then had a tour of the school, and met far too many people to mention.

After this, I made my way to the Science labs, and tagged along with the team who were on their way to lunch.

In the afternoon, I spent an extended registration period with Nia Williams, and her class, to have a look at how registration periods work. I will be sharing a form with Nia next year, as she is assistant Head of year, and then can be freed up to carry out some of these duties. So it's Mr Howell, Form tutor of 9s next year!

Then it was on to see Sian Forwood, Head of Chem, to get some lesson plans, and a topic timetable for next term. I will be teaching 20 lessons a week, with an established teacher for the start of my training. I have one year 7 class, two year 8 classes, one year 9 class in BIOLOGY!, and a year 10 class . Interesting stuff.

I'm really looking forward to this new beginning, and the new challenges it will bring.
